Astro Bot Dlc Arrives Today As First Of 5 New Expansions Coming To The Playstation Platformer

If games only got 9s and 10s based on how big they are and how much freedom they offered then most indies would never score higher than a 4. If these things are what you look for then fair enough but to suggest YOUR metrics for liking a game should apply to everyone else show a lack of empathy and frankly symptoms of being a sociopath. I loved Astro’s playroom and I have no doubt this is gonna be an experience up there with Mario Odyssey. @nicc83 I would say around the hour mark if you just do the main levels and that’s it, but if you want to see and do everything, likely 20 hours or more.

The short adventure worked as an effective tech demo, starring Astro, for the PS5’s multifaceted (and heavily underutilized) DuelSense controller. I can go to TOCA 3/V8 SUpercars 3 or DTM 3 or whatever for PS2 and DS/PSP/PS2-Xbox-PC are all different. I don’t know if I’ve ever played a platformer before where I enjoyed literally every single boss fight and level, but I can confidently say that about Astro Bot. The stages constantly surprise and delight as they take full advantage of the PS5’s hardware. Astro Bot levels are beautiful, brought to life by genius art direction and some of the best graphics on the PS5. It all feels so alive thanks to how the DualSense controller reacts to what players see on the screen, with Astro Bot making great use of the DualSense’s haptic feedback and speaker.

Run up to the ball and activate it to reveal the secret exit, which will unlock the Light Bulb Limbo level in the Lost Galaxy. Reaching the finish line before the blue and red birds will reward players with the two Rising Heat VIP Bots. Beating the blue bird’s time (90 seconds) will unlock the Exalted Exo Cameo Bot, which is based on Cayde-6 from Destiny. Beating the red bird’s time (75 seconds) will allow players to rescue the Suave Traitor VIP Bot, which is inspired by Albert Wesker from Resident Evil.

As I journeyed through Astro Bot’s gorgeous worlds, I was constantly blown away by the clever new hook each level introduced. While a traditional 3D platformer collect-a-thon at its core, Astro Bot is always throwing in a new gimmick to make each level feel fresh and distinct from all the others. Oftentimes, these gimmicks add a new exploration tool, in turn giving the developers the freedom to build levels in completely different ways. The sheer variety Astro Bot delivers is breathtaking, and like I said, there’s not a bad level in the bunch. Ever since it was first formed within Sony’s now-defunct Japan Studio, Team Asobi has put out one high quality game after another.

Part of Astro Bot’s success was the lengthy development time and attention given to the game. Many hope Sony will simply let Team Asobi do its thing and are perfectly content giving the next game the time it needs. @AhmadSumadi We were waiting for the price of this 1 to come down as well, $50 or $60, whatever it was, seemed like way too much for us for a 12 hour game.

The game encourages exploration, rewarding players for finding hidden collectibles and secret areas. Astro Bot’s abilities, such as high jumps, hovering, and special gadgets, allow for creative movement and problem-solving. Each level presents new challenges, from navigating tricky terrain to overcoming environmental hazards.

Puzzle pieces are used to create images of objects that then become additional buildings for players to interact with in the hub world. The first one players build is the gacha machine that they will remember from Astro’s Playroom, and that’s where the majority of one’s coins will be spent as well. Items from the gacha machine fill the hub world out further, and it soon becomes an interactive monument to PlayStation history. Longtime gamers will find rescuing the bots in Astro Bot to be an absolute treat. It’s exciting to see who will pop up next, especially since there are a few very unexpected cameo bots that I won’t spoil here.

That would be a charming Easter egg hunt, but Team Asobi isn’t just investing in empty references. It uses the opportunity to show its love for PlayStation history. As players explore each level, there are several collectibles for them to find. These come in the form of finding Astro’s fellow Bots (who are sometimes dressed up as famous and forgotten PlayStation characters) and puzzle pieces in each stage. The best that could be said about these collectibles is they never feel like a chore to track down and get.
